connecting to culture

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I’m an Australian artist with Chinese and Peranakan heritage. Creating art is my passion. I gain inspiration by connecting to culture and interpreting these experiences into original pieces of art. If you also love to explore different cultures and customs, then please support my art residency in Japan.

I’m one of only six international artists selected to participate in a unique artist-in-residence program near Mt. Fuji. For five weeks, I’ll be part of a master-class in traditional Japanese woodblock printing. This specialised printmaking technique was used to create Ukiyoe prints, popular with Impressionist artists like Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. It’s a rare and amazing opportunity to be mentored by renowned craftspeople and learn advanced level skills. Not only will it help to further my studies, but it will also create a great awareness of this intricate art outside Japan.

I also hope to inspire other people to follow their dreams, especially those with family responsibilities. As a mother of two young children, I know the challenges of trying to pursue our passions and make some time to think, create and reflect. Your support means so much to me, and it would be a privilege to share my journey with you.
