PINEAPPLE KING
PINEAPPLE KING
This artwork was inspired by Lim Nee Soon, otherwise known as the ‘Pineapple King’ of Singapore, who was famous for presenting some 3,600 pineapples to the British Army and Navy during WWI. Lim’s contributions to public affairs and philanthropy earned him the title of Justice of Peace in 1925.
I created this piece after learning more about this bold Singaporean pioneer during my regular visits to the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall near my home. The memorial hall was built in 1902 and is a beautiful example of colonial era architecture with Corinthian columns, a carriage portico and intricately decorated wrought iron balustrades.
