SINGAPORE HERITAGE PERANAKAN TILE WORKSHOP

Date: 30 August, 2018 | Time: 1.30pm - 4.00pm

Be inspired by gorgeous shophouse tiles found around Singapore! Create your own Peranakan tile inspired fabric artwork in a bite-sized workshop perfect for beginners and experienced creatives.

In under three hours, you’ll design and print a unique artwork in my cosy studio in heartland Singapore. You’ll also enjoy an introduction to Peranakan culture, which is an eclectic mixture of Chinese, Malay and English influences. Our workshop will finish off with some local Peranakan sweets, cappuccino and green tea!

Plan your print by using tried-and-tested templates and personalise it by choosing your favourite designs from my extensive collection of hand-carved rubber blocks. Print on 100% cotton sateen from Japan and don’t worry about hemming - my local sewing aunty has done that already. A special range of textile inks inspired by Singapore shophouses has also been prepared for you to use. Deciding which colours may be the most challenging part of the workshop! We’ll also do some test prints so that you can get the hang of things first.

Choose 30cm x 90cm fabric for a table runner or wall decoration, or opt for 50cm x 50cm fabric perfect for a small table cloth. Display your print to add a BabaNyonya touch to your home, or gift it to someone as a special memento of Singapore!

Come hands-free with all tools, material, supplies and aprons provided for a special session of creative relaxation.
