Temasek Travel – Naval Navigation is an exciting recent addition to my series of mixed media works on canvas. I've used Singapore's four official languages of English, Mandarin, Tamil and Malay to handwrite major place names in Singapore. You may find some spots you've visited lately written in Mandarin if you look closely!
Singapore’s history as a trading port and the official languages that have shaped the island nation are inspiration for this series. Geographical forms composed of major place names float amid maritime symbols. As a learner of several languages, I view language as means of communication, and a symbol of culture and national identity.
Make sure to check it out at my upcoming debut solo show at Ludo Gallery starting 23 October - 15 November, 2015.
