Peranakan Peony celebrates the stunning beauty of this feminine flower. Peonies are a traditional symbol of royalty, rank and honour in Chinese culture. Inspired by the work of Eurasian batik designer Eliza van Zuylen, this print is a fusion of Chinese, European and Indonesian cultures. Japanese woodblock printing was used to create the 50 monoprints in this limited edition. Each artwork was printed by hand using hand-carved timber blocks, watercolour pigments, a bamboo baren and Japanese washi paper. Two timber blocks were used in this print.
