Hand-printing Process

This print was created by hand using Japanese woodblock printing, a technique behind the internationally famous Ukiyoe genre of prints. Multiple wooden blocks were carved and designed before watercolour pigments and a bamboo baren were used to print on specialist Japanese washi paper.

Love Jennifer’s work and was excited about her going to Japan for a residency and happy with what she made there! It was a surprise to see the works I could choose from and loved them all, but happy with the one I chose :) I definitely recommend Shallow Water I as it is unique, using old printing techniques in a modern way, but at the same time relating to the heritage and past.
