PERANAKAN PEONY

from SGD 165.00

The Story

Peonies are a traditional symbol of royalty, rank and honour in Chinese culture. Inspired by an antique batik sarong by batik maestro Eliza van Zuylen in the Peranakan Museum of Singapore, this print is a fusion of Chinese, European and Indonesian cultures. Peranakan Peony celebrates the stunning beauty of this regal and feminine flower.

Hand-printing Process

This print was carefully created by hand using Japanese woodblock printing, a technique behind in the internationally famous Ukiyoe genre of prints. Multiple wooden blocks were carved and designed before watercolour pigments and a bamboo baren were used to print on specialist Japanese washi paper.
