Kiah’s Gallery

Another visit to see my new friend Ain at Kiah’s Gallery. Ain and her mother make gorgeous clothes tailored to your size! I enjoyed getting a lesson in Batik – traditional textiles from Indonesia.  The kawung pattern is a commonly used motif in batik and it derived from the Areca Palm blossom. It’s one of the oldest batik motifs – and I think I’ve seen something similar in Japanese textiles. Sure enough – there’s a similar design on the box of Japanese prawn crackers I received recently…
